LEADERSHIP FOR EXPATRIATE MANAGERS
¨C HOW TO LEAD LOCAL PERSONNEL

(Public Event, 2-days Executive Workshop)

The Chinese work environment poses unique challenges to foreign managers. The quick successes and efficiency increases the headquarters demand, are in most cases not easy to achieve with the given performance level of the local workforce. Simply to push for results easily hurts cultural sensitivities and seldom proves effective. A coaching-style leadership is appropriate for the start, but is not the solution itself. To become an effective leader in China, foreign managers need to adjust their leadership style and have to learn to influence behaviour, thinking and mentality of the Chinese workforce.

This 2-day executive workshop is organized on a monthly basis since several years and attracts mid-level and senior executives from leading multinational corporations. Participants have the opportunity to share their individual cases with peers and receive instant advice on leading local personnel from a known China expert.

WORKING WITHIN MULTICULTURAL TEAMS

(2-day In-House Training)

In today¡¯s globalized economy only a team working effectively across cultures and borders can classify as a world-class team. But to leverage and benefit from differences and to create synergies is by far not easy. While working within multicultural teams has become standard, it still proves to be challenging and stressful from time to time.

Participants with this two-day training will learn more about
- core competencies of a culturally competent team member
- values and trust needs of other cultures
- communication and conflict behaviour
- how to build a strong multicultural team
- how to overcome dysfunctions within teams
- coping with cultural differences at the workplace.

A particular focus of this training are ways to build trust across cultures ¨C a basic pre-condition for the functioning of multicultural teams ¨C and a set of cross-cultural competencies each team member should have and further develop. Skills are built through the analysis and discussion of practical cases of successes and failures of multicultural teamwork.

- become a well-balanced leader
- create winning ideas
- inspire your team

- develop your people, build a strong and trusting team.

The training builds upon several assessments, in particular the assessment of leadership motivation, self-confidence, emotional intelligence, preferred leadership style and of transformational leadership qualities.

EFFECTIVE TEAM LEADERSHIP

(2-day In-House Training)

This two-day course is designed for supervisors, mid-level managers, team leaders and task force managers. It includes numerous case studies, exercises and self-assessments and has a well defined balance between lecture and interaction.

Among others participants will learn
- how to develop one¡¯s personal leadership style
- how to establish trust and cooperation in a team
- how to effectively lead and motivate a team
- how to resolve conflicts
- how to set up team goals and plans and how to implement them
- how to streamline an effective decision-making process
- how to revive dysfunctional teams and
- how to evaluate team performance.

This training does more than just introducing the basics of team leadership. It has its particular focus upon performance enhancement, both of individual and team performance: Thus the analysis and reflection of individual leadership style, strengths and potential development areas as well as the analysis of typical dysfunctions within teams, of problems a team leader needs to handle and ways for increasing team performance are focal points of this training.

CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

(2-day In-House Training)

Effective management builds upon conflict management skills. Without advanced conflict management skills problem solving and decision making are stalled and team communication suffers. Thus the ability to resolve conflict openly and constructively is key indicator of a high-performance team.

Managers spend about a quarter of their time managing conflicts, they negotiate over resources, handling disagreements over policies, deal with complaints, enforce rules and standards, and manage the inevitable frictions and resentments that occur between people.

Following a self-assessment participants reflect upon their own preferred conflict handling style and how to respond to conflict situations more appropriately. This two-day training includes numerous case studies and exercises to build new skills.

Benefits of improved conflict handling skills include
- Increased organizational effectiveness
- Enhanced managerial performance
- Improved problem solving and decision making
- More effective meetings
- Reduced stress, improved morale
- Saved time and energy
- More open communication
- Higher team cohesiveness.
